About R H Politz

Books from the past

Books were different then.

R. H. Politz:

My first story was written on a yellow notepad as my fellow students passed each page around and said, “Wow, Ooooo, This is great! What happens next?” So, for the next two hours I sat at a table surrounded by teenagers in a Sears and Roebuck diner while furiously scribbling thoughts and scenes for the twenty or so readers anxiously awaiting my next page. It was exhilarating to hear their ongoing comments and I wondered exactly where this impromptu story might take us but, somehow, I managed to carry it through to the end. Everyone seemed to enjoy my creation and it was due for our next day’s class; time to go home and clean up my scribbles a bit…, or a lot. I received an “A Minus” and wondered why it wasn’t an “A Plus” but the thrill of entertaining others with written fantasies never left me. I was hooked.

Unfortunately, life got in the way and years passed before I could write again but, during that time, I experienced many things that would alter every story I might create. Someone once told me, “God gave you two eyes and two ears but only one mouth. There’s a message in that.” So I listened and watched and learned that “life” is dirty, unfair, random and cruel but still, it’s beautiful and definitely finite. I also learned that, the more I learn, the more I discover I don’t know. So I’m still learning, every hour of every day. I guess that means I’m alive and, if I can entertain others with my thoughts and bizarre fantasies, I’m reasonably happy. I’m not sure I can ask for more than that.
